Teacher Student Data Link

The Teacher Student Data Link Collection (TSDL) in the Michigan Student Data System will report links between students and the teacher(s) who provide instruction to them. These data are necessary to meet the requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the America Competes Act as part of the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund.

This is a full-year collection. Reported data reflect the student's performance in classes taken throughout the current academic year and the status of his/her academic report at the end of the school year. The targeted collection open date is April 30, 2012.

Prior to the 2011 TSDL Collection CEPI announced that the Course Identifier Code characteristic would be required for the 2012 TSDL Collection. Please be advised that the Course Identifier Code is not required on upload but is required to be reported when the Subject Area Code reported is not "00" (is not a CTE course that is also reported in CTEIS). If the Subject Area Code reported is not "00" and the Course Identifier Code is blank or null, an error message will display and you will not be able to certify the collection.

Upcoming Deadlines
  • 2012 TSDL Collection Certification Deadline August 1, 2012
  • 2012 TSDL Collection Re-open Date August 13, 2012
  • 2012 TSDL Collection Final Certification Deadline August 24, 2012
After the August 1, 2012 certification deadline, CEPI staff will analyze the certified data. Quality review e-mail messages will be sent to district superintendents and MSDS users whose data have anomalies. The collection will re-open on August 13 for all districts. Quality review anomalies can then be researched and, if necessary, corrected. Summer school course data can also be added or updated at this time. There will not be a separate "extended" TSDL collection window for the 2011-2012 school year. Students who do not have a final grade in a course (summer school or otherwise) by the August 24 certification deadline may be reported with an "I" (incomplete) course grade.

Districts that opted to wait and report students' 2010-2011 summer school courses in the 2011-2012 TSDL Collection need to be sure to select the appropriate Academic Year value for each student/course in the Student Course Component. Additional details will be in the upcoming 2012 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document.
