What is a Global Positioning System?
 
Answer:
Global Positioning System (GPS) is a constellation of twenty-four (24) satellites, developed by the U.S. Department of Defense, that orbit the earth at an altitude of 20,200 kilometers. These satellites transmit signals that allow a GPS receiver anywhere on earth to calculate its own location. The GPS is used in navigation, mapping, surveying, and other applications where precise positioning is necessary.
