There have now been four CWD Task Force public meetings.
The first public CWD Task Force Meeting was held on June 2nd, 2003 in the Michigan Historical Museum and Library. The Lt. Governor, Mr. John Cherry, reinforced the initial charge that Governor Jennifer Granholm laid out for the Task Force.
At the July 29th Meeting, at the MSU Pavilion, the Task Force was fortunate enough to bring in one of the leading researchers and foremost experts on Chronic Wasting Disease, Dr. Mike Miller. Dr. Miller, a Wildlife Veterinarian from the Colorado Division of Wildlife, spoke to the Task Force about his current research on CWD, Colorado's troubles with the disease and his ongoing concerns about the spread of the disease.
At the August 19th Meeting, at the MSU Pavilion, the Task Force was fortunate enough to hear from Wildlife Veterinarian, Dr. Julie Langenberg, from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Dr. Langenberg is also considered an expert in the field of Chronic Wasting Disease. Dr. Langenberg shared her thoughts and experiences with CWD to the Task Force and gave detailed and updated information about Wisconsin's current situation to the Task Force.
At the last Task Force Meeting on September 16th, at the Clarion Hotel, the Task Force heard from three different distinguished speakers; Dr. Beth Williams of the University of Wyoming, Dr. Tom Cline the Assistant State Veterinarian of South Dakota, and Dr. Wayne Cunningham the State Veterinarian of Colorado. Each speaker talked about their state's dealings with CWD and talked about their own personal experiences with the disease.
Currently, there are no more public meetings scheduled. The sunset date of September 19th, has been extended to October 15th.
