Earth Day

The DEQ will celebrate Earth Day 2009 on Wednesday, April 22nd at Constitution Hall in Lansing, Michigan.

The DEQ celebrated Earth Day in 2008 on April 22 at Constitution Hall in Lansing, Michigan, with more than 2,700 and attendees.  The participants included school groups, children and staff of DEQ, MDA, and DIT in celebration of Bring Your Child to Work Day, families and friends of DEQ Earth Day poster contest winners, partnering organizations, and visitors from other state agencies.  The event featured sixty-one displays and activities.  The atrium was colorfully decorated with Earth balloons and 1,080 Earth Day posters created by Michigan students.  During the event, DEQ handed out over 2,000 tree seedlings to Michigan youth.  In addition, DEQ collected 12,825 pounds of electronic waste, as well as 500 pounds of plastic bags to be recycled.  Staff distributed 2,100 reusable shopping bags to replace the plastic bags.   Powerpoint presentation

The DEQ's Earth Day Celebration is lined up with many booths, displays, and demonstrations.  If you are a group or organization interested in attending Earth Day, please complete the Invitation for Partners to Participate form.

 

 

Poster Contest 2009
With last year's entries reaching over 1,500, it is no wonder this contest has been such a success.  Students are invited to submit original Earth Day themed drawings.
