Radioactive Material

Radioactive Materials Unit The Radioactive Materials Program (517-241-1275) is responsible for naturally occurring radioactive material found in the oil, gas, brine, chemical, and water treatment industries subject to state control under the authority of the Public Health Code - Part 135 of 1978 PA 368, as amended. Michigan's Ionizing Radiation Rules contain the applicable regulatory requirements for protection of health, safety, and the environment. Unit staff also respond to incidents and emergencies involving radioactive materials and work with other state and federal agencies on the identification and remediation of contaminated sites and in the safe management of radioactive wastes.
