It is the mission of the Environmentally Preferred Purchasing (EPP) initiative to encourage and increase the use of products and services that are preferred environmentally, within state government, and by Michigan P2 partners and businesses, municipalities and the general populace. Environmentally Preferred products and services impact the environment less than competing products, taking into account raw materials, production, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, reuse, operation, maintenance, and disposal of the product.
Project Goals and Objectives
1. Establish a priority system for researching and developing material on environmentally-preferred products.
2. Provide presentations, and develop fact sheets (bulletins) and case studies on environmentally-preferred products.
3. Maintain an EAD/EPP website, containing developed material, to educate partners, business stakeholders and purchasing agents in state and local government.
4. Incorporate environmentally-preferred purchasing information into state purchasing contracts, where feasible.
5. Replace the purchase of two or more product lines annually with a more environmentally-preferred product line.
6. Document achievements in environmentally-preferred purchases on the State Recycled Products Purchasing Report and on the annual report prepared by the EAD under Parts 143 and 145 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (NREPA).
7. Provide EPP technical information in response to requests via phone calls, e-mail and on-site visits.
