Michigan Family Independence Agency (FIA) director Marianne Udow presented the agency’s statewide Achiever Award to Eunica Lanier of Croswell on Friday, February 18 at the Sanilac County FIA Office in Sandusky.
The award acknowledges the accomplishments of Ms. Lanier, a public assistance recipient and single mother of one child, who has demonstrated remarkable progress toward economic independence and self-improvement.
When she applied for assistance from the Sanilac County FIA in December 2004, Eunica Lanier had no job and no transportation. With help from the FIA and the Work First program, she acquired
a vehicle and a job at Mercy Hospital in Port Huron as a laboratory support worker.
Eunica Lanier is the 134th Michigan resident to be honored with the Achiever Award.
The Achiever Award was established in October 1993 to recognize persons making outstanding progress toward self-sufficiency under Michigan’s comprehensive welfare reform initiative
