Bob Rose

DHS Achiever 101996 Bob Rose of Calumet, formerly of Mancelona, received the October 1996 Achiever of the Month Award. In 1987 Bob suffered a back injury as a result of an auto accident. When he recovered he worked several jobs but was unable to make ends meet for his daughter and wife. With no income and a utility shutoff pending, Bob applied for public assistance at the Antrim County FIA in February of 1996. He was referred to Work First Program and with help from his Work First Counselor, he sent out a number of resumes. Bob was hired for a sales position with The Visitor's Channel, an ABC affiliate television station. In early June of this year he requested the closure of his AFDC case based on his increased earnings. He has subsequently accepted a promotion with Scalan Communications in the Upper Peninsula.
