| Cathy Lucier |
Cathy Lucier of Coldwater received the June 1996 Achiever of the Month Award. After a divorce, Cathy became the single mother of three children. Having few marketable skills and needing to take care of her family, she turned to the FIA for help in 1982. She got a job at a dime store in Greenville and worked there for eight years where she learned many new skills, but the job did not pay enough for her to be self-sufficient. She negotiated a part-time work schedule with her employer which made it possible for her to attend college. In December 1993 she graduated Cum Laude from Central Michigan University obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences. In January 1995 she began working as an aide for a group home for mentally ill adults. In July of that same year she was hired at the Branch County Family Independence Agency. Cathy's AFDC case closed in January 1995.
