| Emma Luckado |
Gerald Miller presented the May 1996 Achiever of the Month Award to Emma Luckado of Flint. As a single mother of two children, Emma first became involved with the FIA in 1982. She began working as an Administrative Assistant for a company that laid cable for the cable companies. After earning enough money to close her AFDC case, the company closed and she had to reapply for assistance in 1992. Emma participated in volunteer activities and became employed with the Salem Housing Task Force for three months during the summer of 1995. She was laid off from this job but immediately started her search for other employment. She was referred to the Work First program and got a job through The Human Investment and Development Corporation and is working as an Assistant Manager for Amy Jo Manor Apartments. Her strong will to succeed helped her get through the tragic death of her son who died from an asthma attack. Due to excess income, Emma's AFDC case closed in March 1996.
