A key element of the Board's STOP grant plan has consisted of developing statewide training partnerships between the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCADSV), the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan (PAAM), the Michigan Judicial Institute (MJI), and the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).
The Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence works closely with MDVPTB to provide training to new domestic and sexual violence service providers and executive directors. The Coalition also co-sponsors quarterly executive director meetings with the MDVPTB Advisory Group meetings. They operate the Michigan Resource Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence with funding from the MDVPTB and other supporters.
The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan and the Michigan Judicial Institute work collaboratively with the MDVPTB to provide training to their organization's respective target audience. Most recently, the Michigan Judicial Institute developed a Domestic Violence Benchbook for judges.
The Board is working collaboratively with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards to develop domestic violence training standards and a domestic violence training package for current law enforcement officers to implement training statewide.
The state partners have produced several work products that compliment the training efforts including:
- A Domestic Violence Bench Book developed by the Michigan Judicial Institute for judges and court personnel;
- The Law Enforcement Response to Domestic Violence: An Officer Inservice Manual, created by MCOLES;
- Updating the Model Policy: The Law Enforcement Response to Domestic Violence (jointly produced several years ago by the MDVPTB and MCOLES);
- A New Service Provider Training Participant Manual and Resource Guide developed by the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence;
- Expert Testimony in Domestic Violence cases training manual developed by the Prosecuting Attorney's Association of Michigan.
