Organizational Work Areas
The Michigan Department of Information Technology was established by Executive Order No. 2001-3 to professionally manage the state's IT resources, and to deliver timely value added services through trusted partnerships with our customers. In order to improve and streamline the information technology systems of the state, the department aims to create uniform standards and policies across agencies. Our organizational structure facilitates this transition with the separation into five areas, Agency Services, Infrastructure Services, Employee and Financial Services, Strategic Policy and Enterprise Security.

Agency Services
Agency Services
Agency Services is the liaison between the Department of Information Technology and the individual agencies. The role of this area is to work with the agencies to achieve agency goals. They are responsible for ensuring delivery of agreed upon services. They will work with the two other branches to make certain that agencies receive excellent customer service and that the technology solutions chosen are the best option. They will also work across all agencies to identify common technology needs so we can leverage resources, thereby creating cost savings.
Infrastructure Services
Infrastructure Services
Infrastructure Services is responsible for maintaining and supporting the state's immense information technology infrastructure. They are accountable for desktop services, field services, data center services, telecom & network management, and technical services. With over 55,000 desktops, 2,000 communications lines, and 700 applications in operation right now, Infrastructure Services will work to simplify the state's technology architecture and create an enterprise-wide system. Not only is this an industry best practice because it generates cost efficiencies by only requiring maintenance of one system, but also it guarantees faster implementation of policies, procedures, and new technology. Our customers will be more productive because their systems will operate more smoothly and they will be able to communicate more easily when the state has uniform applications. Infrastructure Services will work to make the systems reliable and to enable customers to receive increased levels of service. A standing committee was created to work with Infrastructure Services to specifically handle security issues. In the wake of September 11th, the committee was created to protect the state's information not only from outside breaches, but also to protect the system from accidental internal breaches.
