Program Areas
The Michigan Biomass Energy Program (MBEP) focuses on the
development of renewable energy derived from biomass resources. The types of energy obtained from biomass include heat, electricity, and liquid fuels. Biomass is any organic matter which is available on a renewable basis through natural processes or as a by-product of human activity. Biomass includes: agricultural crops and wastes, animal waste, wood and wood waste, energy crops, and municipal solid waste.

Although MBEP attempts to provide information on all types of biomass, much of our research and project funding focuses on three main areas: Anaerobic Digestion, Energy Crops, Biodiesel and Ethanol.

Anaerobic Digestion

Biodiesel

Energy Crops

Ethanol
