Renewing your real estate license(s) online is much easier and faster than relying on mailed checks and applications. You will be able to use the Department's online renewal site approximately 60-90 days prior to license expiration. To do so, iCOLA requires a USERID and PASSWORD. A temporary USERID and PASSWORD were mailed to company type brokers when the system was initially implemented. However, since many brokers have either not had the opportunity to use iCOLA or used it infrequently, the USERID and PASSWORD have been misplaced or disregarded. If a new USERID and PASSWORD is needed, please follow the steps below:
- If your broker license is an entity type or company type structure (LLC's, Corporations, Partnerships; all licenses prefaced by 6505) and the broker company needs to obtain or reset the USERID and PASSWORD, make a request at www.michigan.gov/iCOLAnewaccount. Once the company broker's request is received, a new USERID and PASSWORD will be mailed to the broker
- If you hold an Individual Broker license (6504), Associate Broker (6502), or Salesperson (6501) whether or not the USERID or PASSWORD is known, these licensees can reset them on the iCOLA site at www.michigan.gov/iCOLAlogin
Additional services available to brokers include the electronic or online capability to approve new salesperson applications and approve salesperson transfer applications.
All license types: One of the most beneficial features provided by iCOLA concerns renewing if there are not changes to the license information that is currently on the license, meaning that the Department has on file for the license. If renewing with no changes to your license information, anyone can go to www.michigan.gov/iCOLArenewonly and simply enter the 10-digit license ID number and proceed directly to payment. Remember, this "renew only" site is to renew a license making NO CHANGE (e.g., no name change, no address update, no transfers of a salesperson license). All instructions will be explained fully on the mailed paper license renewal applications.
Questions: If you have any questions about obtaining the USERID and PASSWORD, please visit our frequently asked questions website found on the real estate license specific link. If the FAQ's do not assist you with resolving your question or you are still experiencing problems regarding your USERID and PASSWORD
- contact the real estate unit staff by phone at (517) 373-7353
- or, for a more expedited response, email your question to bcslic@michigan.gov
It is vital that you include your 10-digit license I.D. number in any correspondence with the Department, whether email or in writing
The staff expects a high volume of calls during July through December due to this year being a triennial license renewal year for more than 65,000 real estate licensees.
Brokers are encouraged to post a copy of this information in the brokers's office plus discuss it with licensed staff so that renewals are processes as painlessly and automatically as possible. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation and patience.
