Pregnant with twin boys, Jessica Davis found herself alone and without resources to take care of herself and her baby daughter. She didn't have family in the area to help her with basic items for the new babies. The staffs at Saginaw County Department of Human Services and the Michigan Works! Agency stepped up and connected the young woman with community resources to help with cribs, car seats and diapers for her children.
"I don't know what I would have done," Jessica said. "I didn't have anyone I could turn to and with twins on the way, I was overwhelmed."
Now, with her children thriving, Jessica continues to make progress on her JET self-sufficiency plan. She completed her GED at Employment and Training Connection and has moved up from a part-time job in food service to a floor sales position at an electronics retailer. Jessica is taking classes at Delta Community College for training as a health unit coordinator. She recently has earned a number of sales awards from her employer. The increase in her income from her employment and child support payments has replaced the cash assistance she once received. Jessica is well on her way to self-sufficiency for herself and her young family.
