Department of Natural Resources recreation officials will host a public open house on Tuesday, April 10, to review design plans for the redevelopment of Hopkins Creek State Forest Campground located in Bloomfield Township in Missaukee County. The open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center, located at 6093 E. M-115 in Cadillac West, adjacent to Mitchell State Park.
DNR forestry and recreation staff will be on-hand to answer questions and take comments on the redesign plan.
This project will include the expansion and renovation of the Hopkins Creek campground, as well as a new "event-only" equestrian campground. Associated with this development will be the closing and alteration of several state forest two-tracks, which currently access the facilities and surrounding areas.
"Providing adequate, environmentally sound access to the campgrounds and to Hopkins Creek is a major goal of this project," said DNR Forest, Mineral and Fire Management, Cadillac Unit Manager, Bill Sterrett.
Persons with disabilities needing accommodations for the meeting should contact Brenda Curtis at 517-373-6260 or curtisb@michigan.gov a minimum of five business days before the meeting. Requests made less than five business days before events may not be accommodated.
