On May 9 and again on June 28, come and take a journey into the past. Discover the only known Petroglyphs (Native American Rock Carvings) in the state of Michigan. There will be historical displays, pictures, artifacts, and other hands on items for all to examine.
The State Historical Society Archeologist will be on hand to answer questions about the Petroglyphs. Local Historians will be at the history tents also answering questions and explaining many things about the area and the Petroglyphs (rock carvings) . The pavilion that protects the Petroglyphs will be open for everyone to get a very close look at these almost magical drawings in stone, dating back almost 1,000 years.
If you have never been to this park, you are missing something very unique and special in the world. These sacred grounds have a mystical quality to them, that must be experienced in person.
The May 9 OPEN HOUSE is geared toward elementary school children, but all are invited. The second OPEN HOUSE on June 28 is for adults, families and simply everyone.
You can get an early look at the park by volunteering for one of the WORK BEES that have been set-up to help maintain the park and get it ready for the OPEN HOUSE activities. Contact the park or HIKING MICHIGAN to give us a hand.
