The Forest Land Enhancement program has not been reauthorized by Congress, which means there is no new money for cost share grants for forestry practices under this program. The State of Michigan has allocated the slippage money from the previous fiscal year to contracts to private forest owners on a first come, first serve basis.
If you are interested in future cost share for forestry practices, there may be money available under other federal programs, such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). That program is administered by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). You may call you local NRCS office for more information. Other sources of information are your local DNR Service Forester - located at six DNR Operations Service Centers statewide, or your local Conservation District.
