Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

Water Resources Conservation Advisory Council

Sumedh Bahl of Ann Arbor, manager of water treatment services for the city of Ann Arbor, is appointed to represent municipal water suppliers for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.

Bryan A. Burroughs, Ph.D. of DeWitt, executive director of the Michigan Council of Trout Unlimited, is appointed to represent statewide conservation organizations for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.

Frank D. Ettawageshik of Harbor Springs, tribal chair of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, is appointed to represent Indian tribes for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.

Jo A. Latimore, Ph.D. of New Hudson, outreach specialist for the Michigan State University Department of Fisheries and Wildlife and facilitator of the Michigan Lakes Partnership, is appointed to represent statewide riparian landowners associations for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.

Samuel Wendling of Muskegon, director of Muskegon County Convention & Visitors Bureau and member of the Michigan Association of Convention & Visitors Bureau, is appointed to represent statewide tourism organizations for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.

A follow-up to the Groundwater Conservation Advisory Council, the Water Resources Conservation Advisory Council studies and makes recommendations on how to improve Michigan's water withdrawal management framework.  

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Historical Commission
 
Lloyd W. Conner, Jr. of Monroe, president of the Monroe County Labor History Museum, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring May 21, 2012.  He succeeds Debra K. Knooihusen who has resigned.

Samuel Logan of Detroit, publisher and co-owner of the Michigan Chronicle, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term commencing May 21, 2012.

Edward D. Surovell of Ann Arbor, president and owner of Edward Surovell Realtors, is reappointed to represent the Historical Society of Michigan for a term expiring May 21, 2012.

The Michigan Historical Commission advises the director of the Department of History, Arts and Libraries, approves Michigan Historical Markers, and works to preserve and protect Michigan's history.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
