Whereas, Agriculture is Michigan's second largest industry, employing over one million people on 53,000 farms, bringing $55 billion into the state's economy; and,
Whereas, Any accident or illness that occurs can hurt the productivity of a farm site; and,
Whereas, Michigan AgrAbility is a free information and referral service geared toward people in production agriculture who have been involved in an accident or have an illness that has resulted in a disability; and,
Whereas, Michigan AgrAbility is a program funded by a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant through Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Services (CSREES); and,
Whereas, Michigan AgrAbility helps farmers with disabilities connect with appropriate services to enable them to continue to do what they love best….farming; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of July 14, 2008, as Michigan AgrAbility Week to honor and celebrate Michigan's farmers, especially those who continue to farm despite physical disabilities and challenges.
