Whereas , Many Michigan residents, including seniors, children, an persons with disabilities rely on public transit bus drivers for transportation to work, school, medical appointments, shopping, and other activities; and,

Whereas , Efficient, dependable, safe, and accessible transit services greatly improve the quality of life for many Michigan residents; and,

Whereas , On July 9, 2008, the Isabella County Transportation Commission, the Michigan Department of Transportation, the Michigan Association of Transportation Systems, the Michigan Public Transit Association, Q'Straint, Inc., A.C. Carrier, Holland Bus, Arboc Mobility, Hoekstra Transportation, and El Dorado National will sponsor the 33^rd Annual Michigan Small-Bus Roadeo in Mt. Pleasant to recognize and honor public transit bus drivers working in transportation systems across our state; and now therefore be it

Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of Michigan do hereby proclaim July 9, 2008, as Public Transit Bus Driver Day in Michigan and I encourage all citizens to join me in saluting the dedicated service of Michigan's public transit bus drivers.
