Whereas , Comcast, a leader in the telecommunications industry, continues to invest in Michigan and is a creator of jobs, an investor in technology, and a partner to local communities; and,
Whereas , Comcast not only provides quality communications products and services, but enriches the communities it serves; and,
Whereas , The Comcast Leaders and Achievers ® Scholarship Program recognizes high school seniors for their community service, academic achievement, and leadership skills; and,
Whereas , Students are nominated by their high school principals and are recognized with one-time scholarship grants of $1,000 from the Comcast Foundation for their pursuit of higher education; and,
Whereas , In 2008, 1,965 students were recognized across all Comcast communities with Leaders and Achievers scholarships, and 139 of those were granted to Michigan students; and,
Whereas, This year, the Comcast Leaders and Achievers ® Scholarship Program has granted more than $1.9 million and the program in total has granted nearly $10 million in seven years, recognizing more than 9,500 students in Comcast communities; and now therefore be it,
Resolved , That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 11, 2008, as Comcast Leaders and Achievers Recognition Day.
