Whereas, Every Michigan community can benefit from volunteer action no matter how big or small; and,
Whereas, Volunteers who are young or young at heart, can connect with local community service opportunities through hundreds of community and service organization like schools and college campuses, volunteer centers, mentoring organization and various nonprofits; and,
Whereas, Millions of volunteers working in their communities utilize their time and talent daily to make a real difference in the lives of children, adults and the elderly; and,
Whereas, During the week of April 13-19, service projects will be performed and volunteers will be recognized all over Michigan and the nation, for their commitment to service; and,
Whereas, The giving of onself in service to another empowers the giver and the recipient; and,
Whereas, Experience teaches us that government, nonprofits, businesses and dedicated individuals can work together to solve our nation's social problems; and,
Whereas, Volunteers are vital to our future as a caring and productive state and nation; and now therefore be it
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of April 13, 2008, as Michigan Volunteer Week.
