Terry Thomas: A Day in the Life

Terry Thomas

Terry Thomas is a Field Services Tech based in Detroit.  He is a member of Team 3A, and was nominated for “A Day in the Life” by his manager, Theasess Keys.  Terry says he and his teammates wear many hats when it comes to duties, which include repairing desktops, and solving network and application problems.  Terry’s team supports six agencies – Career Development, Transportation, Treasury, Education, Attorney General and the Family Independence Agency.  Terry says the team is made up of 15 “hardworking and dedicated techs.”

It’s rare that Terry has a “typical” day, meaning he never seems to do the same thing each day, but he’s usually into work by 7:00am and out the door for service calls by 8:00 or 8:30.  His team supports agencies in a three-county area, so Terry is on the road quite a bit.  He says his favorite part about the job is the interaction he has with his teammates.  The team works well together and has even had events outside of work, including a picnic.  Terry says the most challenging part of his job is “working in all of the different agencies environments, and needing to learn multiple ways of performing the same task.”

Terry has worked for the State for six years.  Prior to DIT, he worked for the Department of Career Development, providing desktop and network support for users in the Detroit area.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering degree from the DeVry Institute of Technology.  Away from work, Terry enjoys reading mystery novels and watching Science Fiction movies.

Terry is very dedicated to his work and is well respected by his manager and teammates.  His manager Theasess says, “Terry is a team player and is always willing and able to give a helping hand.  In his spare time Terry coaches for the peewee inner city PAL Football League.  He's a model team member and all-around good guy.”  Terry also had some parting words regarding the department.  He says, “If DIT is going to be successful, communication and cooperation are our keys.”
