Whereas, Disabilities are a part of human diversity; and,
Whereas, Of Michigan's nearly 10 million residents, approximately 9 million - or one in every five residents - have a disability no matter what race, gender, religion or ethnicity; and,
Whereas, State employees with disabilities share the vision of including everyone in making Michigan a great place to do great work; and,
Whereas, State employees with disabilities believe that there is great nobility and great pride to be found in being a public servant; and,
Whereas, October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. In observance of this month, the Michigan Alliance of State Employees with Disabilities will hold its annual conference on October 8, 2009, at the Library of Michigan;
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 8, 2009, State Employees with Disabilities Awareness Day in Michigan. I encourage citizens to reflect on the contributions made by employees with disabilities and to support the efforts of people with disabilities who seek to become or remain active members of the workforce.
