Aquatic Month

Whereas, Forms of recreation and the creative use of free time are vital to the happy lives of all our citizens; and,

Whereas, Education, athletic, and recreation programs throughout the state of Michigan encompass a multitude of activities that can result in personal accomplishment, self-satisfaction, and family unity for all citizens, regardless of their background, ability level, or age; and,

Whereas, Safe swimming and aquatic-related activities play an important role in good physical and mental health and enhances the quality of life for its participants; and,

Whereas, The state of Michigan has an abundance of swimming facilities, aquatic programs, and water-related activities and parks that offer safe and healthy recreation; and

Whereas, Aquatic sports and activities help build self-esteem, confidence, and sense of self-worth and are a fun source of exercise and social interaction; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 2008 as Aquatic Month in Michigan.
