Whereas, The increasing demands that have been placed on our environment are affecting the quality of our air, water, land and food, leaving us vulnerable to health factors that can have devastating consequences; and,
Whereas, Environmental health professionals in Michigan apply their expertise to prevent and resolve impending environmental problems to protect the viability of our natural resources and to significantly reduce potential dangers to our health; and,
Whereas, Education and community awareness about environmental health issues is a crucial component to create a healthier environment for future generations to enjoy; and,
Whereas, The Michigan Environmental Health Association will host its 65th annual education conference to inform the community about water quality, on-site sewage disposal, and indoor air quality, among other environmental issues;
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of March 15, 2009, as Environmental Health Week in Michigan. I encourage all citizens to recognize the contributions made by environmental health professionals for the public's well-being and to become more aware on how to better protect our environment.
