How do I learn more about teacher certification requirements?
Michigan law requires that elementary and secondary school employees with instructional responsibilities shall hold a certificate, permit, or vocational authorization valid for the positions to which they are assigned. The Office of Professional Preparation Services (OPPS) within the Michigan Department of Education ensures that all school personnel complete quality preparation and professional development programs which meet standards established by the Michigan Legislature and the State Board of Education. Who do I contact about public school issues affecting students?
Parents and others concerned about public school issues affecting students should contact their local school and/or school district officials. The Great Schools Michigan website allows parents to search by school name or zip code to find contact information for public schools and school districts throughout Michigan. In addition, the Michigan Department of Education’s Office of School Support Services oversees the administration of several different federal and state programs, including drivers’ education, school meals and food services.
