2008 State Librarian's Excellence Award Winner Announced
Marshall District Library was presented with the award at the Michigan Library Association annual conference by State Librarian Nancy Robertson. The Marshall District Library collaborated with area organizations that work with youth and with local professional artists to develop the Afterschool Arts Apprenticeship (AAA) program. The Program recently earned Marshall District Library another honor, the Michigan Downtown Conference Partners 2008 Innovation Award. Marshall District Library Director Laurie St. Laurent stated that the library plans to celebrate being honored with the State Librarian's Excellence Award by launching new outreach services, including home delivery of library materials.

Nancy Robertson, State Librarian Dear colleagues,

I know you have all been interested in seeing the final version of our proposed administrative rules and learning when the public hearings will happen. The process for rule promulgation is complex and rigorous, but we now have a status update for you.

We anticipate that the rules will be published in the 10/15/08 issue of the "Michigan Register" and they should be posted on the State Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules (SOAHR) Web site already. Two public hearings have been scheduled: the first one will be held in St. Ignace on the afternoon of November 14th; the second will take place in Lansing on the afternoon of November 24th.

A copy of the rules as submitted to SOAHR, a summary of the proposed changes, and a comparison table can all be found below:

Thank you for your patience during this process.
