Special Commissions and Projects
HAL oversees various special commissions and projects. The Michigan Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Committee, the Idlewild Centennial Commission and the Michigan Commission on the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 are currently at work. |

Michigan Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Committee
Michigan Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Committee The mission of the Michigan Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Committee is to provide leadership and direction for Michigan's celebration of the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth (Feb. 12, 2009). It will do so by helping people appreciate how Lincoln's life relates to the lives of countless Michiganians today, serving as a clearinghouse for information about celebration activities, promoting partnerships that provide programming, and demonstrating how Michigan is forever linked to the life of Abraham Lincoln. Idlewild Centennial Commission
Idlewild Centennial Commission The Idlewild Centennial Commission was established to coordinate activities commemorating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Idlewild resort community in Lake County. Founded in 1912, Idlewild represented freedom for many African Americans, being one of more than 30 resorts in the country where African Americans were permitted to vacation and purchase property before such discrimination became illegal in 1964. Commonly known as "Black Eden," Idlewild was an active, year-round community through the mid-1960s, frequented by well-known entertainers and professionals from throughout the country. |

Michigan Commission on the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 The Michigan Commission on the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is charged with encouraging, planning, and developing activities, events, programs, observances and services appropriate to commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. The commission will enlist the support of private citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations and governmental entities in the planning and promotion of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812; in encouraging private citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations and governmental entities to organize and participate in War of 1812 Bicentennial activities; and in researching and promoting the development of cultural, historical, and economic ... |

Land Use Leadership Council-PROJECT COMPLETED 2003
Michigan Land Use Leadership Council Co-Chaired by former Governor William Milliken and former Attorney General Frank Kelley. The Director's of Environmental Quality, Agriculture, Natural Resources, History, Arts and Libraries, Transportation, and Labor and Economic Growth were all members. |
