Two Michigan eLibrary policy committees began meeting in January. Their task is to recommend MeLCat policies to the Library of Michigan by the summer, in time to begin creating the statewide MeLCat union catalog and resource-sharing system with the migration of the InMICH libraries. After that, the plan calls for groups of libraries to be added to MeLCat each quarter.
The MeLCat Committees are:
- Catalog Policies Committee: Responsible for policies for the statewide union catalog
- Resource-Sharing Policies Committee: Responsible for policies governing statewide resource sharing.
Participating libraries will be asked to abide by the policies developed by these committees.
Committee members, who were selected after a nomination process, represent all types of libraries, as well as various resource-sharing groups, around the state. The Michigan Library Consortium MeLCat Web page has descriptions of each committee, as well as rosters and minutes of their meetings.
Please feel free to contact committee members with questions or comments, or e-mail Louise Bugg or Debbi Schaubman at the Michigan Library Consortium. MLC is working closely with the Library of Michigan to coordinate the implementation of MeLCat.
