LANSING, August 28, 2008 - Michigan can expect to congratulate 11 new millionaires in the very near future!

These 11 lucky people will have one thing in common: They were big winners in the Michigan Lottery's Million Dollar Madness instant game, which features 11 top prizes of $1 million each ? the most the Lottery has ever offered on an instant ticket.

"The Lottery has never produced an instant game like this. With so many million dollar prizes available and a terrific advertising campaign, we expect Million Dollar Madness to create a significant return for the state School Aid Fund," said Lottery Commissioner M. Scott Bowen.

Along with the 11 $1 million prizes, the Million Dollar Madness ticket, which sells for $10, will include millions of dollars in other prize amounts, including 20 prizes of $10,000 and 10,000 prizes of $100. In total, there will be over 1.4 million winning tickets, totaling over $33 million in cash prizes, in the game.

Million Dollar Madness will be available beginning August 29 at all Lottery retailers who sell instant tickets. In addition, attendees at two of the state's premier summer events will have a chance play Million Dollar Madness for free and possibly win one of the big $1 million prizes. At both the Michigan State Fair in Detroit and Arts, Beats and Eats in Pontiac, Lottery personnel will be handing out Million Dollar Madness coupons that can be redeemed at the Lottery's booth at both events, as well as actual Million Dollar Madness tickets.

Over 95 cents of every dollar spent on Lottery tickets is returned to the state in the form of contributions to the state School Aid Fund, prizes to players and commissions to retailers. In fiscal year 2007, the contribution to schools was $748.9 million. Since its inception in 1972, the Lottery has contributed more than $14.3 billion to education in Michigan.
