LANSING, January 24, 2002 -- A lucky Lansing man said he was positively shocked to learn he had matched 10 of 22 numbers in the Michigan Lottery’s Keno game to win a $250,000 top prize!

The 52-year-old winner, who requested anonymity, learned he had matched 10 of the Keno numbers drawn on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 after seeing the winning numbers in the Lansing State Journal. The winning numbers for that drawing were: 2, 11, 13, 16, 18, 21, 35, 59, 69 and 78.

"I started checking the numbers on my ticket and when I saw that I had matched nine numbers I stopped and thought, ‘I am sure I didn’t match 10,’" the winner said. "I just sat there for a minute and then finished checking the ticket. Sure enough, I had matched 10 numbers! I kept checking the ticket over and over again because I couldn’t believe I had won. I was so excited that I wanted to scream, but I danced around the room instead!"

The Lansing man purchased the winning "easy pick" Keno ticket at Quality Dairy #24,
6400 W. St. Joseph Hwy., in Lansing
. Prior to turning the winning ticket in at Lottery headquarters in Lansing, the winner said he kept it in his wallet at all times to ensure its safety.

The winner, who said he enjoys watching any sporting event involving Michigan State University, said he plans to share part of his winnings with his children and use the rest to pay bills.

The lucky man offered the following words of advice to other Lottery hopefuls: "It only takes one ticket to win!"

The Keno game is designed to appeal to players wanting better odds of winning a prize. To play Keno, a player selects 10 numbers between one and 80. The Lottery draws 22 numbers from the field of one to 80. Players win if they match six, seven, eight, nine or all 10 of the numbers on their ticket to the 22 drawn by the Lottery, or even if they match no numbers at all. A player matching 10 numbers wins $250,000; nine numbers wins $2,500; eight wins $250; seven wins $25; six wins $7 and matching zero numbers wins a free $1 instant game ticket.

Keno drawings are held every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
