Contact:  James McCurtis (517) 241-2112
Agency: Community Health

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, the Michigan Department of Community Health has confirmed 22 E. coli cases that are genetically linked and over half of those cases have either prepared or consumed hamburger meat from Kroger. Twelve of these cases are known to have required hospitalization. The 22 genetically linked cases, E. coli O157, are present in seven Michigan counties including Eaton (1), Macomb (4), Washtenaw (4), Saginaw (1), Genesee (1), Wayne (4) and Oakland (7).

The Kroger Company announced on June 25 that it is recalling ground beef products sold in Michigan and certain parts of Ohio that may be contaminated with E. coli.

Detailed information regarding the recall is available in the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
