Pandemic Influenza

Pandemic influenza is flu that causes a global outbreak, or pandemic, of serious illness that spreads easily from person to person.  A pandemic is currently underway.

  Current WHO Pandemic Status:  PHASE 6 
Human to human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region and at least one other country in a different WHO region.  Designation of this phase indicates that a global pandemic is underway.

  • Novel Influenza H1N1 Information
    On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization raised the pandemic alert level to phase 6 in response to the ongoing global spread of the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus.  Find more information from MDCH and CDC at the links below.
