The cancer incidence data presented originates from the Michigan Cancer Surveillance Program within the Division for Vital Records and Health Statistics of the Michigan Department of Community Health. The Michigan Cancer Surveillance Program participates in and is funded in part by the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The Michigan registry is a valuable resource for use in epidemiologic studies and for planning and evaluating cancer prevention and control programs. The contents of the cancer statistics website represents a summary review of cancer diagnosed among Michigan residents from 1985 through 2004. The site includes cancer incidence and mortality statistics tables, with additional breakdowns for the most prevalent cancer sites: breast, lung, colorectal, and prostate cancer. Cancer survival statistics are also provided. Cancer statistics by by health district and by county are provided in the Community Health Information section.
