July 30, 2007
Following an invite by Representative Andy Coulouris, Michigan Department of Civil Rights Director Linda V. Parker has agreed to attend tonight's public hearing on the closing of the Buena Vista branch office of the Secretary of State. The purpose of the hearing is to gather information and take public comment on the impact of the proposed closure. Parker is attending in response to allegations that the closing of this office, in conjunction with the 2002 closing of the city of Saginaw office, will have a disparate and negative impact on people of color, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
The forum is scheduled for tonight (Monday, July 30th), from 7:00PM to 9:00PM, in the Buena Vista Community Center located at 1940 S. Outer Drive.
