Blue Care Network to Acquire Physicians Health Plan
On Wednesday, September 15, 2009, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) informed the Civil Service Commission (CSC) that Blue Care Network (BCN) is in the process of acquiring the Physicians Health Plan (PHP) of Mid-Michigan. PHP and BCN are among the health care choices offered to State of Michigan employees and retirees. No immediate changes are expected. State of Michigan employees and retirees enrolled in PHP should continue to use their existing PHP cards and provider networks.
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval and will not take effect immediately. PHP services are expected to remain available through the end of the State of Michigan plan year (September, 2010). The CSC will be closely monitoring the acquisition process, and will share updated information with employees and retirees enrolled in PHP as it becomes available.
