The Library of Michigan features one of the 10 largest genealogy collections in the United States. The Abrams Foundation Historical Collection has census records for the United States and Canada, historic city directories, maps and atlases, land records, county and family histories, ships passenger records, vital records, cemetery transcriptions and genealogical periodicals. The Library of Michigan and the Archives of Michigan recently launched Seeking Michigan, a Web site rich with genealogical records, including Civil War records and Michigan death certificates, 1897 to 1920.

Michigan Center for the Book
The Michigan Center for the Book draws from the Library of Michigan and its affiliate institutions to encourage and produce local and statewide programs and resources that promote books, reading, authors and libraries including author tours and One Book programs.

The Center for the Book has announced its 2009 grants - 12 grants for a total of $4,150.00. Congratulations to the recipient libraries. You can see a listing of the recipients and events at the Grants page. Information on the 2010 grants program will be posted in November 2009.
