| 2007 PAEMST Science Awardee Tim Graham |
Timothy Scott Graham, a chemistry teacher at T. Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, MI, has taught for 25 years; he has taught for 20 years at Roosevelt High School. Prior to teaching at Roosevelt High School he served as the science department chair at another Michigan high school. For two years he served as the National High School chairperson for the 16th Biennial Conference on Chemical Education. Through his relationship with BASF Chemicals, he has been able to expose his students to applied chemistry.
Mr. Graham is known for his enthusiasm for chemistry and for taking difficult concepts and putting them in an easy-to-understand context. He has mentored students long after they have graduated from high school and college and inspired his students to pursue teaching high school chemistry as a profession. He supports other chemistry teachers by writing articles for two chemistry periodicals and contributing to a top chemistry college textbook. When the top 20 graduates of Roosevelt High School are invited to the Superintendent's Dinner, Mr. Graham is always invited by the students to help celebrate their achievements.
Mr. Graham has received several national and local awards. He is part of the National Aeronautic and Space Administration's Education/Astronaut Program and has received a Tandy/Radio Shack National Teacher Award, National High School Chemical Manufacturers Association Catalyst Award, Michigan Teacher of the Year award, Michigan Science Teacher of the Year award, and Wayne County RESA "Golden Apple" Award.
Mr. Graham holds certification in biology, chemistry, and physics. He has a B.A. in biology/chemistry from Cedarville College and an M.S. in physical science education from Eastern Michigan University.
