Promotional Organizations

The League of Michigan Bicyclists
A nonprofit membership organization which promotes bicycling for recreation and transportation in Michigan. The LMB publishes an annual poster calendar of cycling events statewide, distributes general cycling information and educates children and adults on safe cycling. The LMB works with the Michigan Department of Transportation and other state and local agencies to improve conditions for bicycling in Michigan. Michigan Department of Natural Resources
Promotes the development of trail systems throughout the state. They will work with local agencies in trail development, planning and design, and administer a number of funding programs. Trailways Program

Michigan Department of Transportation
Provides information and planning assistance for nonmotorized transportation facilities. Facilities for nonmotorized transportation may be established in conjunction with existing highways or may be established when a highway is being constructed or reconstructed.

Michigan Mountain Biking Association
MMBA promotes responsible mountain biking and works towards the goals of common land access and natural resource protection through interaction with policy makers, the cycling industry, race promoters, mountain bikers and other trail users.

Michigan Trails and Greenways
Is a statewide nonprofit organization as of October 1, 2005. Our personnel were with the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Michigan Field Office for the past 8 years. Since Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is regionalizing, Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance was formed to continue a Michigan-centered focus.

Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation Trails, Inc.
TART Trails is dedicated to enriching the communities and countryside of Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties by creating and maintaining a network of non-motorized, public-use trails.  TART publishes a newsletter with upcoming bicycling events.

Top of Michigan Trails Council
Facilitating the establishment of a network of multiple-use recreational trails in Alpena, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Otsego, and Presque Isle. These trails will offer safe recreation and alternative transportation routes for all residents and visitors to the area.

Friends of the Walker Highland Trails
This non-profit organization has plans to develop and maintain a non-motorized trail system within the City of Walker. This system will interconnect established trails such as the 26 miles of the Musketawa Trail, the 92 miles of the White Pine Linear State Park and the 15 miles covered by Kent Trails, allowing an outdoor enthusiast to traverse from one trail to another!
