How traffic is affected

  • The I-75 from Rosa Parks Blvd. to Clark Street will close for major construction on Monday, February 25, 2008. Download the detour maps for either cars or commercial vehicles (trucks). The map for cars includes closures, alternate routes to downtown, Mexicantown and the Ambassador Bridge.
  • Some local streets are closed or restricted to local access only. See the list of local street closures and restrictions.
  • Access to downtown Detroit, the Mexicantown community and the Ambassador Bridge will be maintained throughout the project.
  • Detour information for St. Anne's Church is provided on a special map.

MDOT to open section of I-96 early in southwest Detroit's Gateway Project
September 5, 2008 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will open a one-mile section of I-96 from Rosa Parks Boulevard to I-94 in southwest Detroit as early as Saturday, Sept. 6, weather permitting.

What we are doing
The Gateway Project is a major economic development project connecting area freeways to the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit's Mexicantown neighborhood. It includes:
  • Reconstructed freeways and a new interchange for I-75 and I-96
  • A pedestrian bridge connecting east and west Mexicantown
  • A redesigned Ambassador Bridge Plaza
