I-96/I-696 Corridor Improvements, Oakland and Macomb Counties
What We Are Doing
During the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons, MDOT will invest $67 million to make extensive improvements to 19 miles of the I-96/I-696 corridor in Oakland and Macomb counties. Included in this work is the rehabilitation of 56 bridges. In addition, MDOT is currently investing $24 million to rehabilitate 22 bridges on I-696 between Dequindre Road and Schoenherr Highway. The work began in September 2008, and will resume in spring 2009. The rehabilitation work on I-96 in Oakland County starts from just west of Novi Road and continues east into Macomb County, ending just west of the I-696/I-94 interchange. These projects are designed to improve safety and promote economic vitality on this heavily traveled corridor.
