| ORBP Newsletter, C&T Research Records and MATES: What are they? |

The Materials and Technology Engineering and Science newsletter (MATES) was first published in October 1986. These provided a record of the research conducted by and for MDOT. MATES were produced and published in-house through the summer of 1994. In 1995, MDOT enlisted the help of the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) at Michigan Technological University to publish and print the new Research Record. When the Office of Research and Best Practices (ORBP) was established in late September 2005, the Research Record became the ORBP Newsletter.
