Structural Section Responsible for investigations, evaluations, structural analysis, and technical information concerning bridges, fatigue, fracture, corrosion, coatings, strength and toughness of steels, reinforcement, deflection, strain and rotation measurement, failure analysis, specifications, moveable bridges, test fixtures, earth vibrations monitoring, sign supports, materials and fasteners, project acceptance testing for aggregates and metals, and complete machine shop services.

    Responsible for testing anchor bolts, studs, high strength bolts, aluminum sheet and extrusions, concrete reinforcing bars, dowels, mechanical splicing, welded wire fabric, prestressing strand, temporary hanger rods, fencing, steel posts, pipe and conduit, guardrail, posts, bridge tub railing, posts, baseplates, corrugated sheet and pipe, grader blades, canvas sample bags, Adopt-A-Highway bags, sample welds: procedures and qualifications, aggregates: coarse and fine sieve analysis, deleterious, freeze-thaw, Los Angelos abrasion, AWI Responsible for metals, welds, and aggregates testing.

  • Structures
    Responsible for reinforced concrete structures as it relates to experimental construction, system performance evaluation, and system failure analysis and investigation. Provide structural engineering expertise in addressing the more complex, advanced, and sensitive issues relating to structural design and analysis, and the construction and maintenance of highway structures such as bridges, culverts, and other roadside appurtenances.

  • Structural and Environmental Noise Investigations
    Responsible for laboratory and field operational duties for ongoing research and technical investigations. Perform advanced bridge and highway structure inspections involving nondestructive evaluation. Determine material properties of concrete and steel structures. Calibrate pull-out testing equipment. Perform vibration investigations.  Provides statewide analytical and technical information on traffic noise impacts and mitigation. Responsible for noise analysis, predictions and measurements, noise wall information and type II noise program.
