Follow the "use by," "keep refrigerated," or "safe handling" tips on package labels. The Safe Handling Instructions on raw meat and poultry give guidelines. Pay special attention to the following advice to keep raw meat and poultry juices away from other foods:

- Cook ground beef, lamb, pork, egg dishes, caseroles to 160 degrees.
- Cook chicken, turkey to 180 degrees.
- Make sure eggs are hard scrambled or hard boiled.
- Do not buy or use items that look like they've been tampered with or opened.

Buy frozen items stored below frost line in store freezers.

Read label cooking instructions carefully and follow directions.

If you have a cut, use a bandaid and keep it clean while preparing food.

Do not drink unpasteurized or raw milk or apple cider.
