September 24, 2009 - Ypsilanti Post Trooper Receives Lifesaving Award

Contact:  F/Lt. Wynonia Sturdivant, Ypsilanti Post, (734) 482-1213
Agency: State Police

LANSINGAt a special ceremony today in Lansing, Michigan State Police (MSP) Director Colonel Peter C. Munoz presented Trooper Gregory Morenko of the Ypsilanti Post with the MSP Lifesaving Award.

On Feb. 3, 2009, Morenko responded to a residence where it was reported a female was unresponsive.  Upon arrival he found an unconscious woman who had no pulse and was not breathing.  Morenko relieved the woman's son, who was attempting CPR, and began administering first aid.  Thanks to his efforts, the woman's condition improved by the time emergency medical personnel arrived.

Upon reviewing the circumstances of this incident, the MSP Board of Awards concluded Morenko's quick actions and knowledge of first aid techniques helped extend the woman's life.

A native of Marysville, Morenko enlisted with the department in 2004, graduating as a member of the 120th Trooper Recruit School.  After graduation he was assigned to the Ypsilanti Post.
