Welcome to Michigan's online source for information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act). The Recovery Act, signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009, represents the largest federal investment increase in America's roads, bridges and mass transit in 50 years. It also provides the most significant expansion in tax cuts for low and moderate income households ever. This aggressive economic recovery plan is designed to jumpstart our economy, create jobs, and help Americans struggling to provide for their families.

• JACKSON CITIZEN PATRIOT: Governor makes pitch at Jackson train station for high-speed rail
Gov. Jennifer Granholm pulled into the Jackson train depot Monday to announce state plans to seek $800 million in federal stimulus funds to create a high-speed rail line between Detroit and Chicago.

• BAY CITY TIMES: State Police receives stimulus money to hire officers
More than $6.5 million in federal Recovery Act funds have been awarded to the Michigan State Police to help hire and train 15 troopers and three sergeants.

Michigan applied for $830 million in grants from the Recovery Act to fund high-speed rail link between Detroit and Chicago. The job of upgrading train stations and improving tracks could create 10,000 jobs.

Ottawa, Hiawatha, and Huron-Manistee National Forests were awarded $695,000 from the Recovery Act for maintenance of recreation and administrative sites and trail bridge work.

• ASSOCIATED PRESS: Midwest governors form high-speed rail group
Midwest governors met in Chicago on Monday in a show of unity as they push for an eight-state, high-speed rail network -- agreeing to set up a group that will coordinate the states' bid for a share of $8 billion in federal stimulus cash for such projects.

• METRO DETROIT: Detroit, Dearborn police score big in stimulus
The city of Detroit will get more than $11 million to hire 50 officers, Dearborn will get more than $2 million to hire 10 officers and several other Metro Detroit municipalities will receive funding.

• DETROIT NEWS: Michigan bids for federal high-speed rail funds
Michigan, seven other Midwestern states and the city of Chicago signed a Midwest Regional Rail Initiative. Together, the states are seeking $3.2 billion dollars in stimulus money for the Midwest Regional Rail Initiative.

• KALAMAZOO GAZETTE: Stimulus money starting to arrive in southwestern Michigan
Kalamazoo had received $79 million through the stimulus as of July 20, including $47 million for rebuilding the Westnedge Avenue interchange and widening two miles of I-94.

Michigan led the nation earlier this month with the announcement of 12 awards totaling more than $1.35 billion in federal Recovery Act grants for advanced-battery and electric-vehicle manufacturing and development.

• GRAND RAPIDS PRESS: Most of West Michigan's federal stimulus money flowing to road work
In West Michigan, this "stimulus" cash will be most apparent along local roads and highways. Many of them will get resurfaced, rebuilt and rebridged in the next two years. About $92 million will be spent on 55 street and highway projects in Kent County and eastern Ottawa County.
