• Temporary Instruction Permits
A Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) allows you to practice driving with a licensed adult for up to 180 days.

• Testing
You will be given a knowledge test to determine how well you know Michigan traffic laws and safe driving practices.

• Probation
All new Michigan drivers, regardless of age, are probationary for a minimum of three years if they have not been previously licensed.

• Denials
The Secretary of State will contact your previous home state to obtain your driver record, which then becomes part of your Michigan driver record.
