Self-Service Stations

Renewing vehicle tabs is a snap thanks to automated Self-Service Stations now in Secretary of State PLUS offices and SUPER!Centers across Michigan. The ATM-style machines give customers the option of renewing their vehicle tabs without waiting for service at the counter. Fewer people in line also allow employees more time to assist customers who have complex transactions.

Customers simply follow the touch-screen directions and scan the bar code on their renewal notice. Upon verifying the information and accepting the credit card, the Self-Service Station prints a vehicle tab and receipt for the customer. Single transactions usually can be accomplished in seconds.

To use the Self-Service Station customers must have:

A renewal notice with their correct name, address, vehicle information and personal identification number (PIN).

A valid Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card or a debit card branded by Visa or MasterCard.

Self-Service Stations cannot be used to renew Gross Vehicle Weight tabs.

While simplicity is one of the Self-Service Station's greatest attributes, customer service specialists in each office will provide any necessary assistance.

The Self-Service Stations are the latest in a long list of technological improvements that Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land has brought to the Department of State. A greater variety of Web-based services and numerous timesaving branch-office upgrades are just some of the enhancements that she has spearheaded.

To find the nearest Self-Service Station:

Visit the convenient Branch Office Locator  which lets customers find an office based on the specific services they are seeking. The locator also gives customers the option of searching statewide or by city, county or ZIP code. Select "Self-Service Stations" and hit "Search." Upon finding the Self-Service Station nearest you, simply click on the branch office name to see the hours that the Self-Service Station is available. Many can be used 24/7.

In addition to branch offices, there are three municipal buildings that have Self-Service Stations. They are available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and when the buildings are open for public meetings.

An additional service:

Customers of the Washtenaw County PLUS Office at 353 N. Maple Road can use the Self-Service Station there to pay any civil-infraction ticket under the jurisdiction of the 15th District Court, which serves the city of Ann Arbor, including the University of Michigan campus.
